“Why The Performing Monkey?” I hear you ask?

Well, the first one's a simple one; I really like monkeys. Secondly, when you record a voice over, you treat it as a performance. On several occasions I've heard people say "Oh it's easy, you just speak into a microphone and it's done...".

Well, as I'm positive you know, it isn't quite as easy as that! - Hence, 'The Performing Monkey' was born.

The Monkey, (or Richard/Rich/Dickie Boy/Puff Richie (long story) to my friends), has been involved in the media industry for a little while now, having operated my own video production company for the past 5 years. My time in media has seen me dipping my feet into the world of TV and film production as well, seeing many, many things.....(No, I won’t elaborate!…)

For as long as I can remember, I’ve done things with my voice; be it cartoon styles, high pitched, low pitched, old gent, RP, Pathe News, odd characters, and even animals! I've always been told that I should be doing it professionally, but it's only recently that I’ve been strongly encouraged by people close to me (you know who you are!) to just go for it, since I enjoy ‘doing voices’ that much, I may as well make a living from it!

After spending the last few months trying different things; accents, characters, cartoon voices, narrative styles, I’ve started to develop quite a repertoire. It’s been said by friends and colleagues that along with narration voice over, characters are certainly a major strong point. I'll continue to add more and more examples of my voice in its various styles, so keep checking back for updates.
