Andrew Stanton – The Clues To A Great Story

For the uninitiated, Andrew Stanton is a filmmaker with Disney Pixar, and is responsible for the likes of Wall-E, Finding Nemo, Toy Story 1,2,3, Monsters Inc et al; and I stumbled upon this TED video the other day as it really hits home about what good storytelling is about. He talks about how he helped pioneer a new revolution in feature length animated films, how they don’t have to contain love stories, musical numbers, evil villains etc which had flooded pretty much all animated films prior.

And, thankfully, he was proved right, and this has been clear in the last 15 or so years in all of Disney Pixar’s film output. Focussing on great storylines that don’t simply stick to the same old plot lines of films gone by. They push boundaries, break new ground, go where other animations just haven’t gone before. I’ve been a long time fan of Pixar, (now Disney Pixar) films, and always will be.

Watch and learn, people of Hollywood! Stop making endless remakes of classic films and learn a thing or two from Disney Pixar – just create great new stories and make them!

Enjoy the video.

P.S. Wow, finally a blog post that isn’t completely full of rant-iness.
