• We knew it was too good to last....

One of the mildest winters ever was had at the end of last year and beginning of this one; and I for one was very thankful for it. I'm not a fan of snow, not when there are things to do, people to see etc. When it's snowing at Christmas you don't mind as much as you can barricade yourself in and forget about it, get yourself warm and drink mulled wine. Not so much when it happens in normal working times. Read more

  • I stumbled across this video on YouTube the other day; a trailer for the film Puss In Boots (a spin-off from Shrek), but it's done in a rather unusual way; it's an homage to the now-famous Old Spice ads. You know the ones - if I say "I'm on a horse" you'll know exactly what I mean!

This kind of piggybacking has been done before with other things, so it's not a brand new idea, but I think in this case it's been done very effectively! And it's certainly done it's job and gone viral, as you'll see from it's YouTube stats. At the time of writing this well over 5.5 million views. As with all adverts/trailers, the content should be engaging, funny, informative, interesting; or certainly a combination of such. And this is one of the best trailers I've seen for a while. Made me chortle most heartily! Read more

  • Well, it's Olympic year, the big 2012. A great year. I think mainly because it's a nice round number, it feels 'whole' in a strange way.

I'm a believer that the prettier the number, the better the year will be! Although it's probably me just making it feel like that....Either way, I'm setting myself up to have the best year ever, and I trust you are too. Read more

  • Or, 'Why It's A Good Thing To Be Bah Humbug'

Now, this time of year our senses are assaulted by all manner of 'festive' atrocities, from glitter, retina-scorching flashing lights, bunting, blow-up snowmen and all manner of 'joyous' nonsense designed to make us feel good about ourselves. The trouble is, there is a distinct proportion of the population, me included, that simply can't stand all this rubbish, the song and dance it involves; and prefer to opt out. Read more

  • Yesterday, I was exhibiting all day at Solihull's Business Growth Show. After speaking to people all day, many of whom were interested in my offerings, I ended up with a good handful of cards of people that I could easily work with in the future at any time. Now, I'm not one of these people that adds all and sundry onto a big mailing list and blanket emails everyone that I've ever met flogging my wares (Have already had that from a couple of people I briefly met) - I can't stand that. I just maintain a smaller list of people that I have either worked with, or could work with in the future. I don't 'do' blanket mails of any sort; what I'll do is follow up this handful personally. • If you've recently watched the recent series 'The Choir - Military Wives' with Gareth Malone, you'll have seen he was training up a group of Army wives and girlfriends to be a choir. The series was superb, and has resulted in them creating a single. Proceeds will be going to two charities that help the families of active servicemen and women, and the British Legion. Read more

  • I stumbled across this behind the scenes video today, of all the voice actors that feature in the upcoming Happy Feet Two film. The film itself looks rather adorable, and now makes me want to see the first one and this one! Can't believe I've not seen it....I'm such a fail at times.

As you'll see from the video, voice artists get up to all sorts in booths :) Read more

  • On Tuesday 6th December I shall be attending & exhibiting at The Business Growth Show's inaugural event in Solihull. It's set to be a fantastic event with several hundred people coming through the door for you to network with. Over the last few years I've attended I think every single one of the Birmingham events (bar one when I damaged my back!) and exhibited several times too, and I've always found them to be one of the most productive events you could attend (and exhibit at).

I'll be there all day, so please do come along - come and find me and say hello, and we can 'do' coffee as it were.....

  • This post is prompted by Amy, a voiceover colleague of mine, and a recent posting of hers on her fabulous blog - Voice Of Amy

The actual post this refers to can be found here - it's well worth a read.

It's all about the 'conversational read' as us voiceovers call it. It's possibly, arguably, the most common type of read we would get asked to perform; for something like an e-learning programme, corporate/promo video narration etc. Something which gives all the relevant information across, without it being a hard-sell pushy narration, just a friendly yet informative conversational style. • Well, today is my birthday. I don't say this to encourage a flurry of "Happy Birthday"'s as I normally keep it quiet, but today is a bit different. This post is rather to draw your attention to, what I think, is the world's best birthday card! It was given to me by my mom this morning, who had an artist and card maker down in Cornwall create it just for me, from a whole host of keywords that define me and my likes and loves!

It's got everything from iPhone, Mac, Italian food, Cornish cream tea's, microphones, voiceover related stuff, cake, cider - you name it, if I love it, it's there!

So unusual, and there is absolutely nothing out there like it. Created just for me.......love it. Read more
